Poll question maker: how to set up, publish and read a poll

The quick answer

Memberplanet's poll question maker follows a documented path: open Polls in the left navigation sidebar and select Create a New Poll. You then write a title, choose public or invite-only access, enter the question, pick a question type from the dropdown, and build the answers. Preview the poll, then save a draft or publish it. Memberplanet labels poll creation an Enterprise-plan feature, so check which plan your account sits on before you start.

What a poll question maker does

A poll question maker turns one written question and a short list of answers into a link people can tap. That is the core of it. The differences between tools sit in what wraps around the question: who may answer, how long the vote stays open, whether the tally shows as a bar chart or a bare count, and whether the tool asks for an account before you start building.

Some makers carry one question at a time. Others stack several into a single form and treat the replies as data you can read once the vote closes. The tools people group under this label are wider than the name suggests: a social platform's built-in poll sticker, a form builder that handles surveys and polls in one place, and a marketing tool with a hosted landing page all do the same job at different scales.

Three shapes cover most of the field. A single-question poll fits a quick yes/no or a pick-one-from-four. A multi-question form reads more like a short survey, with each question scored separately. And an AI builder drafts the question and the answers from a topic you type.

Setting up poll questions

The documented memberplanet flow runs through six steps. The same shape repeats on most tools with small variations: an entry point on the dashboard, a setup screen that asks who can answer, the question field, the answers, and a publish or save-draft step. What changes between tools is which of those steps sits behind a plan tier and which are open to any signed-in user.

Not every tool follows this order. Some open on a template picker instead of a blank form. Some ask the question last. The common ground is that a poll question maker needs the same inputs regardless of the order it asks for them: a question, a set of answers, and a rule for who may respond.

Templates, data and poll types

Typeform's templates page lets you search the gallery for poll templates and use one as a starting point. Whether you create a poll from scratch or customise a pre-built template, the vendor says you can start collecting responses in just a few minutes. The same page covers random and anonymous polls as engagement formats for fans, friends and customers.

Templates pre-decide the shape of the data you collect. A single yes/no question gives you a count. A multi-question form gives you a row per respondent, which you can read per person or per question after the vote closes. The template you start from shapes what the numbers look like, and whether you can compare answers across questions or only read one tally at a time.

The practical difference shows up when the vote ends. A yes/no template leaves you with a single count and no breakdown. A multi-question template leaves you with a row per respondent, usable as a small dataset. And a template with a correct-answer flag turns the whole thing into a scored quiz.

A maker built for marketers

Woobox describes itself as a poll maker built for marketers. Its templates page targets marketers, brands and creators. Each template, according to the vendor, is a hosted poll with real-time results, optional lead capture, and a one-line embed. Lead capture means the tool asks for a name or an email alongside the vote, which is a marketing decision rather than a polling one.

The marketers framing changes what the tool optimises for. A marketing poll cares about who answered, not just how the count landed. An embedded poll on a brand's website collects data the brand keeps. A friends' group chat poll collects nothing but the tally, because nobody asked for a name.

Quiz makers and free tools

A poll quiz maker for friends works differently from a straight opinion poll: it carries a correct answer. Some tools let the creator flag one option as right, turning the vote into a scored round. Others only tally which option drew the most taps. If the point is who knows the most, look for a tool with a correct-answer setting.

SurveyMonkey's free online poll maker creates a poll, shares it with an audience, and turns quick responses into better decisions. The vendor advises starting with one clear question or a few short ones. Results arrive on a dashboard where you can spot trends and share insights with a team or community. Free tools cover the basics: a question, answers, a link, and a tally.

Builder for giveaways, quizzes and polls

Woobox offers a free AI campaign builder for giveaways, quizzes, and polls. The vendor says you can pick a template to prefill the prompt, and the AI personalises the rest. The same pages say the AI writes the choices, designs a hosted landing page, and publishes the poll on a public URL in seconds.

An AI builder changes the setup order. Instead of writing a question and then building answers one by one, you give it a topic and it drafts both. The drafts rarely land perfectly on the first pass, but they give you a starting point to edit rather than a blank field to stare at.

Limits no tool removes

The mechanics a poll question maker controls are the question, the answers, the duration and the access rule. The mechanics it does not control are who actually arrives to vote and how those votes pattern over time. An organiser watching the results sees the count, and on tools that collect names, sees who voted and when.

A platform's built-in poll carries that platform's rules too: option caps, duration limits, and result visibility the creator cannot always override.

If the poll sits inside a contest, the organiser's rules sit on top of the tool's own settings. Those rules can disqualify entries the organiser questions. No setting inside any maker changes what the organiser decides to accept. The tool's documentation covers its own buttons; it does not cover the contest's terms.

How to do it

  1. Open the poll area

In memberplanet, the documented route runs through the left navigation sidebar: click Polls, then click Create a New Poll. Other tools use a similar entry point, usually a button labelled create or new on the dashboard.

  2. Name it and pick who answers

Give the poll a title and answer the setup questions the tool asks. Memberplanet's flow includes deciding whether the poll is public or by invite only. That single choice shapes who reaches the vote later.

  3. Write the question

Click Next, enter the poll question, and choose a question type from the dropdown menu. One clear question beats three vague ones. If the tool supports it, add a short description underneath so voters know what they are deciding.

  4. Build the answers

Create the answers for the question type you chose. Keep each option short enough to read on a phone screen. Four to six options covers most votes; more than that and people start guessing rather than reading.

  5. Add more questions if needed

For additional questions in memberplanet, select Add Question Group and repeat the question-and-answer steps. Not every tool stacks questions this way; some treat each question as its own separate poll with its own link.

  6. Preview, then publish

Click Next when you have finished adding questions and answers, preview the poll, and select either Save Draft or Publish when ready. A draft lets you share the link with one colleague for a sanity check before it goes live.

Common questions

How do you make a poll in messages?

Open the conversation and look for a poll option in the attachment or composer menu. Not every messaging app builds one in. Where the option is missing, a standalone poll question maker gives you a link that works in any chat.

How do I manage my Poll?

Managing a poll means editing the question before votes arrive, watching the tally while it runs, and closing it on time. Memberplanet's documentation places creation and management behind the same flow: build the poll, publish it, then read the results from the same dashboard.

How long does it take to build a poll from a template?

Typeform says a poll built from a pre-built template, or from scratch, can start collecting responses in just a few minutes. The template pre-decides the question shape and the answer structure, so setup is mostly editing rather than building.

How do I hide my results from voters?

Result visibility is a creator setting on most tools. You choose whether voters see the running tally after they vote, or only the organiser sees it. The setting lives in the poll's options or privacy panel, not in the question editor.

Can I add multiple questions to one poll?

Yes. Memberplanet documents this with an Add Question Group button that lets you repeat the question-and-answer steps inside the same poll. Tools that do not stack questions treat each question as its own poll with its own link.

Can the poll run on my website?

Woobox documents a one-line embed for its hosted polls, which is the standard way to put a poll on a page. You copy the embed code and paste it into your site's HTML where the poll should sit. Not every tool offers this; some only share a link that opens in a new tab.

Do I need an account to make a poll?

Most tools do need an account. Memberplanet places poll creation on its Enterprise plan, which means signing in first. SurveyMonkey's free poll maker also runs from a signed-in dashboard. A social platform's built-in poll sticker needs only an account on that platform.

How do I close a poll or set it to end automatically?

A manual close is usually a button on the poll's admin panel. An automatic end uses a duration setting chosen at setup. X polls can be set from five minutes to seven days, and the default is one day. Other tools vary; some close on a date you pick, others run until you close them manually.

Limits of this guide

No page here can promise that a vote stays unnoticed. We do not teach circumvention, we do not name vote sellers, and we do not quote prices. The mechanics documented above come from vendor pages; what an organiser sees depends on their own settings and on the platform's rules.

Rules come from the platform and the organiser

X prohibits coordinating with or compensating others to inflate engagement metrics, and it names Polls among the features covered. The Pet Industry Business Awards name the consequence in their own contest: a business may be investigated, lose votes or be disqualified on reasonable evidence of purchased votes. No seller can stop an organiser from doing that.

Why ordinary voting looks ordinary

Slido says it is alerted when an event gets an unusually high number of votes in a very short time, and Crowdsignal says its built-in measures detect patterns of potentially abusive voting. Ordinary participation arrives spread across the voting window, from different people at different moments. Nothing on this site is a method for getting a vote past a check, and a vote that a tool blocks does not count.

The legal position, and what is refused

Organiser rules differ: the RSPCA Pet of the Year Awards allow extra votes through donations on their official mechanism, while OpenTable Australia treats a vote cast in exchange for money or a reward as null and void. Both are contest rules, not statutes, and whether payment is lawful where you live is a question for a lawyer. Orders are refused for any contest whose rules ban paid votes, and for political ballots.

What a refund covers, and what it never does

Votes ordered for a poll that never appear on its count are refunded after the poll closes. A refund never covers an organiser's decision: Localsearch may void all votes for a disqualified nominee, and Mentimeter says a user whose access it cancels under its Acceptable Use Policy is owed no refund or compensation. No result is promised.
